Mr George Rengasamy
Pioneer
Civil Aviation Logistics &
Technical Support Specialist
Mr George Rengasamy joined the
aviation industry in January
1948, after he completed his secondary education at Raffles Institution. His first posting was with
Malayan Airways as
a Logistics Officer, based in Logistics and Warehousing at Kallang
Airport. He trained with Boeing and
Pratt &
Whitney on Airframes and Engines.
Since 1964,
Mr Rengasamy held several key supervisory
and managerial positions. In
the SIA, he
was the Technical Supplies Manager in charge of Material Management. He
managed
SIA technical support in specialized analysis, design and development.
He
oversaw the design of suitable warehousing for DC10. In
1978, as a Senior Manager he introduced
Automatic Stacker- Retrieval system, a second in Asia after Japan.
During his
life-long career, Mr Rengasamy was
actively involved in several aviation related committees and
associations. With
the Malayan Airways, he was its union’s committee
member. When he was
still SIA’s Senior
Manager, he was a committee member who attended the International
Aircraft
Pooling Meeting for over 70 airlines.
He was also
a member of the Orient Airlines
Association and a Chairman of its Pooling meetings.
He was the President of Singapore Airlines
Executive Union and the President of Singapore Airlines Managers Union.
After
his retirement, he was the President of Singapore Retired Association.
Before his
retirement in 1985, Mr George Rengasamy
contributed to the aviation industry as a Technical Advisor to the
Director of
Engineering.
